a few things.

alright.

so my instructor in this course has someone lightly mandated that we post our first few thoughts out on where this project is going. the problem is, I have several different ideas, each vying for my attention. I figure that the best way to get this blog rollin is simply to throw those ideas out for people to see, in order to receive some feedback. here we go.

I’ve recently been profoundly inspired through a few in-class discussions regarding both Conrad’s Heart Of Darkness and T.S. Eliot’s Hollow Men. I feel that these books have a significant amount to say not only about human nature, but about what it means to exist in a world with both darkness and shadow. furthermore, a number of other works exhibit this portrayal of the battle between darkness and light, works such as Tolkein’s masterpiece The Lord Of The Rings and Plato’s The Republic. I guess what I’m getting at is, what would it be like to take a look at what it really means to exist as humans? though this topic may be difficult, and would need so serious sculpting, it’s an issue that fascinates me.

my second idea regards a debate that has raged for so long, it almost seems taboo. for years now, it seems, people are buying tickets to watch scientists and theologians duke it out over evolution vs creation. I could run into a number of errors here: does anybody have a problem with me researching an issue directly related to religious beliefs?

lastly, I’ve just recently finished a book by Malcom Gladwell entitled Blink. It deals with the split-second decisions our brain makes without us even realizing it, and how these decisions tend to be correct. This recent psychological survey has a number of broad applications, ranging from standardized testing to behaviour in life-threatening situations.

To be honest, I’m quite interested in all three topics, so I’d like to hear what everyone has to say.
